Fourth Grade Witches!

We had a class discussion on the life and work of Picasso. I told them they were "experts" in the subject since they studied him in Open Court. 1st step was to cut head and shoulders with the Picasso face. 2nd we talked about adding items that had to do with witches and Halloween to jazz up the background. I love this project to kick off the fall holidays. :)

Kindergarten "Mouse Paint"

Above is Mrs. Brewer's Kindergarten class. Art below is Mrs. Weber's Kindergarten class.

1. We read the book "Mouse Paint" and talked about the primary and secondary colors. I did a demonstration for them mixing colors like the mice did in the book. 2. The students went back to their own seats and did the same mixing primaries creating secondary colors.
3. I showed them how to make 3 mice and cheese. If there was extra time I had them color the feet and the bellies of the mice to show that they were mixing in the paint right on their paintings.

Kindergarten Line Blankets

Some of Mrs. Houdeshell's Kindergarten class.
1. Students learned a song about different types of lines. (horizontal, vertical, diagonal to the tune of Frere a Jacques) 2. They painted as many different lines they could think of with tempera paint on colored sheets of paper. 3. Created the look of fringe on their line blanket with glued twisted tissue paper.
This was a good introduction to basic tempera painting skills. Everyday in art is the best day of their lives. I never thought I would love teaching them so much!
